“I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.”
~ Ezra Cornell, Cornell University founder, 1868
At Cornell’s School of Continuing Education (Cornell SCE), we work hard to live up to Ezra Cornell’s vision, and we proudly extend it to include at any time, in any place.
SCE traces its roots to 1876, when Cornell offered classes to help school teachers further their education over the summer. Since then, we have offered programs at times and in places and ways that best meet the needs of our diverse student body.
Educational opportunities
Today, we bring Cornell’s distinctive education programs, in as many subject areas and formats as possible, year-round, to anyone who is passionate about learning.
Join us for on-campus, off-campus, and online courses year-round for undergraduate, graduate, and other adult learners and precollege programs for high school students. And if we don’t have what you’re looking for, we’ll help you design it.
All courses offered through Cornell SCE are regular credit-bearing Cornell courses, taught by the outstanding instructors you’d expect from a top-tier university.
“All of the faculty and staff were happy to help in any way they could. Everyone here truly wants you to succeed and will help as long as you ask for it. The professor and TAs challenged me and emphasized the importance of doing well. Everything was ideal.” ~ Kaitlin Border
In addition, because our Summer and Winter classes are often smaller than classes offered during the fall/spring, you’ll gain a great opportunity to really get to know the faculty and work with them directly.
Administrative staff
Cornell SCE is led by Dean Mary Loeffelholz, who also holds a position as professor in the Department of Literatures in English in Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences.
