Before you start

Attend an orientation

Students and their parent/guardian will receive information regarding virtual online orientation for the session(s) in which you are enrolled:

  • For students in Three-week Session 1: May 19, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.
  • For students in Three-week Session 2 and the Six-week Session: June 9, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.
  • For students in Three-week Session 3: June 30, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.

Students and their parent/guardian will receive information about virtual online orientations closer to the start of the winter session.

Technical requirements

All online courses require a strong internet connection. Generally, you’ll interact with the instructor and other students via email, discussion boards, interactive chat rooms, video conferences, and/or phone. Although individual online courses may have different technical requirements, almost all are offered through Cornell’s Canvas software, a web-based learning system.

Your first day

  • Complete all “before you start” items if possible
  • Review IT@Cornell to learn more about tools for remote learning.
  • Review the Learning Strategies Center remote learning preparedness checklist

Download a Virtual Background Image for Zoom
